Drive Smart is a driving course taught by SDOC School Resource Officers that all students must
take prior to driving and parking on one of our campuses.  This four-hour course will be taught at each of our three high schools and is designed to help teens gain the knowledge to drive defensively.  The Drive Smart driving course will take the place of the requirement for Alive at 25 and will be offered at $25.00.  A student may still take the Alive at 25 course instead of Drive Smart.

School Choice for the 2019-2020 school year opens on Friday, March 1st and will remain open until Friday, June 7th.  If you would like for your child to attend a school that is outside the attendance area in which you live, you must complete an online school choice request that can be found on the School District website under the Parent’s tab.  If you are unable to complete the online request, please contact the school office to obtain a paper copy to complete and return to the school that you are requesting.  School choice forms are required annually even if your child is currently on school choice.

School Choice will close on Friday, June 7, 2019.   This is a hard deadline and will end on June 7th, no exceptions Please contact the school office for any questions.

The following are highlights of the SDOC school choice policy:

  • Only students that reside in Oconee County are eligible for choice.
  • Transportation to a “choice school” is the responsibility of the parents/guardians (no bus service will be provided).
  • Students on school choice must submit an application each year.
  • Principals will consider behavior, attendance, and grades before approving applications.
  • The completed online request is due to the choice school on or before June 7, 2019.
  • If more applications are received than the number of spaces available at any school, a lottery system will be used to fill spaces.

The school district reserves the right to limit school choice enrollment by grade level or program as staffing or funding requires. Choice may also be limited by classroom space in the school(s).

As a community with high expectations, we value individuality, we inspire creativity, and we challenge the academic, physical, social, and career development of each student.
